a song with a colour in the title
#30daysongchallenge
The first song arrived without pain or thought. It was already in my head and numerous playlists. „Life in Pink“ by Kate Nash is about mental illness – and coping and living with them. It seems bubblegum-lighthearted but it is not. Even though it is influenced heavily by the californian surroundings, there is an underlying desperation. If the next wave of fear or depression hits – I hope my heart-shaped glasses can ward off those demons.
„My bedroom is a mess but I just can’t clean it
Yeah I’m hungry but I don’t even feel like eating
Yeah I’m trying
I’m not lying“
(life in pink)
The lyrics a straightforward: If you ever felt like this – it is real. It has nothing to do with being weak or being a liar. That’s why I really like this song. It is good to hear someone say it. And if it comes in a bright pink dress even better – let’s face it: songs about mental health are not always uplifting. 😉
Kate Nash and her british accent are on my playlists because she is a great singer/songwriter. She is a feminist, encourages women and girls to create music. She is just fab, man!
