a song that reminds you of summer
#30daysongchallenge
There is probably no song like „The Passenger“ (Iggys Version). For me it is a perfect pop song – a timeless piece of art.
This song reminds me of hot summer night or evenings in Berlin. A city buzzing with energy – rushing by, surprising you at every corner. A feeling of nostalgia mixed with excitement for the future. Promises of summer lovers and the looming of cosy autumns of bittersweet memories. Yes, this simple song evokes all kinds of feelings.
Sitting in a car. Looking at a wonderous night, feeling lost but not scared. Sweaty but not uncomfortable. You and this moment. The smell of petrol, asphalt and trees. The sound of clinking beer bottles, laughter and this very song.
„Get into the car
We’ll be the passenger
We’ll ride through the city tonight
See the city’s ripped backsides
We’ll see the bright and hollow sky
We’ll see the stars that shine so bright
The sky was made for us tonight“
(the passenger)
The change of perspective in the last verse turns the whole meaning … it is a love song. Love for a person, a moment in a hot urban (for me it will always be connected to Berlin) night. Iggy Pop has made an immortal song. It always has been a favourite of mine. And if you listen really close to the chorus … the „lalalalala“s you can hear David Bowie in the background. How perfect!
