Now I leave my mainly english musical content and move far away: Babymetal was a weird yet wonderful discovery. They play kawaii metal (cute metal) and mix J-Pop with metal.
(I won’t explain about pop music and pop idols in Japan, because there are blogs and other media that are much better informed than I am. But if you’re intrested, please have a look into that.)
This mix works really well without being too ridiculous. Cute girls singing about struggles at school, with friends or body issues while accompanied by mighty guitars, drums, bass and an occasional growler. It is fun metal and with a good show!
The song „Gimme Chocolate!!“ is about the devastating fact, that eating too much chocolate could cause weight gain. But chocolate makes you happy … Since this rings home for me – of course I like this song. Also it stays in your ear even longer than you ever anticipated. You even start humming before this little energetic piece of musical sweetness is over.

These first lines of the song are more sounds than actual words. So there is no translation. For me these „atatatata“ and „zukkyun“ sounds emphasize the inner struggle „I really want chocolate“ versus „But it makes you fat fat fat“. 🙂 Totally relatable.
