I will write this text and hopefully I will not have to read it ever again, because that would mean I’ll have to read the lyrics to „The Bed Song“. That would require at least one tissue.
If I need to cry – this song can trigger it without any delay. It is like the first scene in „Up“ (the Pixar movie). It makes me cry. Whether I just read the first lines or just start to listen …
Amanda Palmer and her words are powerful, her singing and music make hard subjects a bit softer. But it still gets to you. She never shies away from dark and hurtful places. She even goes deeper in her more recent works. The song is from the album „Theatre is evil“ (2012). It is quite obvious about two people who have forgotten how to talk. To talk about their needs and wants. About that they love each other. Missed chances and missed moments that could have been beautiful, if only … the story follows their sleeping arrangements throughout the years. From a cuddly sleeping bag to a mattress so wide that they won’t touch each other.
If realization comes late the „could have“-moments are hard to bear. Amanda tells this story and it hits me everytime. Please listen to the song and try to have better communication.
